3rd Oct - Not long to go now......who needs a custom built whelping box and area when you can dig your own amongst the geraniums...........
Needless to say she is now back inside , sleeping on my daughters bed and still ignoring the whelping box !

4th Oct - A long but rewarding night last night, Ruby laboured most of the night and produced her 6 pups between 12.20pm and 6.20am. They are a good size and all feeding enthusiastically. Ruby has had a wash, change of bedding , breakfast and is now settled with her pups for a long siesta.
5th Oct - Ruby and her babies had a good night feeding and sleeping allready visably growing.
6th Oct- another day spent eating and sleeping for both mum and her pups, not a bad afternoon for siesta time considering the weather.
7th Oct - More eating and sleeping
9th Oct - Pups growing rapidly as you can see, mums milk just fully in. Mum happy to doze next to the box for up to 5 mins at a time....even caught her on the bed (luckily covered with waterproof fabric topcover just in case!) snuggled up with my daughter for a minute last nite. Mum happy today to come out for meals next to the whelping box instead of being hand fed in there with her babies.
13th Oct - Mum eating ravenously and pups growing in front of our eyes, Mum now spending more time out of box gradually but always within earshot of her offspring.
15th Oct - Mum still doing well and devoted to her offspring. Pups are eating and sleeping and GROWING.
18th Oct- apologies for the lack of updates, the pups and their mum are doing really well but bronchitis has slowed me down somewhat the last week.
As you can see pups have grown and mum now feeds them sitting up alot of the time. Their eyes have started to open yesterday and are mostly all open today. They are still eating and sleeping their days away. Mum is ravenous and eats pretty much most of the time... not surprising when you look at the pups growth. Mum starts the night on my daughters bed within a paws throw of the whelping box..she usually ends up in with pups for the last half of the night.

21st Oct - claws clipped today, eyes all open and teeth coming thru. Mum still in with pups most of day and alot of protective barking if anyone comes to the door....wonder if the postman and sales reps would find it odd if I put up a sign," Quiet Please pups sleeping" !
23rd Oct - not much changing except for the pups size ....still growing. Mum now out with the family and even had breakfast with the other dogs rather than in next to the box today (her choice she just appeared at feed time and made it clear she was there for her share!) Still checking on her pups every half hour and spending a large part of her day feeding them and cleaning them.
25th Oct- Pups are continuing to feed and grow, had their first solids yesterday and keen doesnt begin to describe their reactions. Coming out of the box several times a day for a half hour play today moving to the nursery room where they will have more space all the time. Mum has decided that feeding between the hours of 11pm and 5am is not needed ! Pups havent seemed to notice and are sleeping through. Mum out with the family more yesterday and having all her meals with the other dogs by her own choice....even found her having a quick play with our 18 month old choccy girl yesterday evening.
27th Oct- Pups & mum up early, have all had breakfast and are now in outside nursery exploring the changes that may have happened overnight.
30th Oct - Pups have the door to the outside part of the pen open today......took awhile to be brave enough to go out and explore even with mums encouragement. Pups wormed today for first time, mum also wormed.
3rd Nov- Sorry there have been no updates for a few days, we have been busy with not only caring for pups and mums but with first visits this week by families....alot of fun for all.
first picture shows pups tentatively exploring outside part of their world , second shows them confidently heading in all directions ! Pups commenced eating of a tray yesterday...still some supervision needed to keep each to his/her own part of the meal.

4th Nov- Pups slept outside last nite due to heat....they preferred the shaded sand under the tree. This morning they were up early playing and now are having a siesta. They are starting to get used to food on a tray instead of hand feeding though I need to stay on hand to make sure that a couple of the boys dont eat the lot :)
6 Nov- Pups are becoming more playfull by the day, just so lovely to watch. Mum still devoted and in and out regularly to feed , check and supervise. Wake up time is currently about 6.15 am. Meals now involve meat and rice &veg .
9th Nov- A busy few days with families visiting , meals eaten, playmates to race around with and lots of sleep to be had (by pups anyway). Pups now are having not only meat, rice & veg but also small amounts of puppy biscuits. Accidents in the inside part of their nursery are seldom now as the pups look to toilet outdoors. Given the intestinal worm prevention tablets again today..dose no 2 of the 3 they will have here.
14th Nov - Pups are growing and playing constantly...their latest game involves a cardboard cubby which is fast being "renovated". Vet is coming tommorrow.
15th Nov - Vet came and immunizations and microchipping are done. All except for one boy had a protest when the surprise came but then wanted to play and be cuddled.
16th Nov - A quiet day of sleeping and eating ....and of course playing, latest trick is to take all the blankets outside in the sand and rain ! Just as well someone keeps them well supplied with clean dry bedding.
19th Nov - A very busy weekend with lots of families visiting. Am looking forward to some pics of these visits
24th Nov - After an initial cautious approach all decided that a swim was a great way to cool down with mum supervising.
28th Nov- Sorry for the break in updates, our other litter left over the weekend with their new families and then I came down with some horrid 48 hour gastro/flu bug. The family stepped into the breach and have done a great job looking after pups. Pups wormed on Friday and are growing fast still, couldnt believe this morning the changes in two days. Not long now till this lovely lot go to their new forever homes no doubt some serious puppy proofing being done at 6 homes in Melbourne this week in amongst the christmas preparations . As you can see the pups dont mind the recent wet weather.... an empty , tray , toys and post breakfast snooze and life is good.
30th Nov - Pups and Paperwork being readied for the first of this litter to leave for their new futures with some excited families.
2nd Dec - And now we are three ! Pups are eating and sleeping and continuing to play here untill their families arrive at the end of the week.
6th Dec - The bachelor pad is the place to be even when the weather isnt that great ! All 3 boys doing well- food, play and sleep are the order of their days. They continue to grow and I have had to shut the internal door to their area as they now can hop over the barrier and have been found exploring on a couple of occasions !
Seen in this picture with our Myia visiting.

8th Dec - The last of the litter have now left.... some minor renovations to the bachelor pad.... the lino has been partly removed by the lads, wasnt to their taste it seems.
We wish them well on their journeys ahead with their new families.
